Alia Bastamam is a Malaysian designer who launched her label two years ago after having worked under prominent designers Sofira and Jovian Mandagie. Her brand, Alia Bastamam, features a ready-to-wear line, made-to-measure designs and a bridal service, as well as a bespoke men’s tailoring service.
Her overwhelming success, due to her custom-made dresses for brides-to-be in Malaysia, led to the launch of an official bridal collection. “The bridal collection will be an extensive version of the designs that I’ve made for the customers. The concept is not so ‘Little Virgin Mary’ bride; I want to put some art into it,” Alia explains.
“The design aesthetic of Alia Bastamam brings a cool, comfortable and neoteric up-to-date culture into the glamorous and enduring idea of fashion. And it always best suits what women want. Drifting through wanderlust composed of luscious, wispy movements of soft fabric, sophisticated risqué for subtle sex appeal, and sharp cuts and fine tailoring for a substantial dash of class.”
“Alia is inspired by unequivocal beauty at first sight and what looks best on a woman. She carefully reflects the charmed classic vintage works of Valentino Garavani and Roy Halston, the edged contemporary tones of Zac Posen and Haider Ackermann, as well as the playful nonchalance of Stella McCartney.”
I believe you will enjoy her 2013 bridal collection as much as I did. Her collection really screams elegance, simplicity and beauty. The line-up is one of sheer beauty, with a variety of designs from kurung cuts to dangerously low back gowns.
Didn’t I say you’d love each and every design?
